Broad overview of what the software does.

Volume analysis

As an analogy its a bit like measuring the size of holes in sponges as

1. Slices the images
2. Image segmentation to identify the size of objects within each slice.
3. Rank the sizes and work out the cumulative proportion of the total volume.
4. Plot cumulative frequency (log scale)
5. Across slices we then have the median size of objects which when plotted gives a roughly Gaussian distribution
