Resolve linting issues between Ruff and Black

Ruff deviates from Black style in some instances, in particular the
paremthesizing long nested
expressions

Recently this has been noticeable in changes in the notebooks/* and manifests as Pull Requests with a lot of noise
(see e.g. #1251).

We should decide on one style and set the rules up for ruff and black to stick to this and ensure that regular
contributors IDEs respect these.

This will reduce the noise and time taken to review Pull Requests.
