POST ignores "Accept: application/json" header

The "Accept: application/json" in the HTTP header of a request seems to be ignored during POST requests and a HTML response is sent. (GET works as expected and provides JSON response).

So do PUT and DELETE and GET resulting in 404.

There is no default response for status responses in JSON, I guess (well, Willem at MPI guessed and it seemed plausible). That doesn't mean returning HTML instead is, err, Acceptible ;)
