Villagers would have a texture that doesn't make me want to kill them with fire.

After hearing "meh the credit isn't worth it" in response to "That's a great idea! You should make a feature request so I'll remember and I can credit you in the changelogs" several times over, seeing an issue actually being made in the wild after so long of development stagnating fills me with determination.
