From your session info, we can see that {ggiraph} has not been attached. I understand why just loading {mosaic} doesn't work: {mosaic} imports {ggformala} but doesn't depend on {ggformula}, so library(mosaic) doesn't attach {ggiraph}.

It's unclear to me why the explicit library(ggformula) doesn't fix the problem when {mosaic} has been loaded previously. But I'm seeing

One fix would be to have {mosaic} depend on {ggformula}, but it seems like that should be avoidable.

Explicitly loading {ggiraph} also works:

I'll have to do a bit of digging to make sure I don't have something set up incorrectly in {mosaic} or in {ggformula} because the current behavior is not intended.

Still not completely understanding the current behavior and why the order of loading {mosaic} and {ggformula} matters. But here are two possible solutions:

1. re-export all the geoms (and perhaps some other things) from {ggiraph}.

2. explicitly attach {ggiraph} in {ggformula}'s .onAttach():

I suspect that most users of the mosaic package are relatively unaware of the underlying dependencies on ggformula and mosaicData, mosaicCore, etc. So identifying a pathway where library(mosaic) gives them what they need would be most helpful. I believe that's inherent in all of the options you suggested but wanted to confirm my assumption.

I did a quick implement of #2. The checking process emits warning messages suggesting that this is not the preferred method. I'll likely go with #1, which is pretty common fare in packages these days, it will just take a bit more time to implement.

I'm not sure whether I think {mosaic} should automatically make {ggformula} available. Some people might use {mosaic} without {ggformula}, and there is some value in understanding where those gf_*() functions live. But we do want the interactive features in {ggformula} to work without an additional reference to {ggiraph}, I think.
