What are good starting materials for learning Ruby?

To answer with my own opinion:

Books

• Mr. Neighborly's Humble Little Ruby Book is a small book you can download for free in pdf format. It is, although quite old, a nice read.
• Programming Ruby is "the Ruby bible" and often refered to as "the Pickaxe Book" due to the cover image.
  The first edition if available for free officially at Ruby Doc
• A bit weired to read is _why's (Poignant Guide) to Ruby. Not only for free, but also with an awesome soundtrack attached to it.

Online Tutorial

• Try Ruby is a small starter, provided by Codeschool, who provide paid courses, but also quite a lot of courses there are for free.
