You already have a number of the portions of what is needed for most games: Communication between player and characters/partner, Automatic content generation, character sheet, character skill tests, turn-based combat… Most of that is use-able as is or with some small changes. It's more like augmenting into what you have with some of what was available in normal renpy just differently. So instead of swapping scenes to change location we can move the character and attempt to provide the context changes to the AI.

Some of what I’m thinking about I’m still tossing back and forth in my head as it must also tie in well with trackable story progression still. With mapping even if it is on a smaller scale, I’d like to be able to procedurally generate both the map and what is on or within the map/room from a context set of data. Then derive from that any additional options for the character when in that locality. Similarly, some type of scheduling must be available to get characters to show up when called for and appear in the correct locations so they can interact similarly presenting their own options for interactions based on their conditional states.

For the procedurally generated maps I’d probably start with the location nodes I mentioned earlier then I’d try creating a function that moves the character into and out of the procedurally generated map based on task completion. Then work from there.

It's kind of pulling back to the developer as I mentioned before some of the control over the game and provide extra guidance to the AI. The simplest iteration would be to add some location nodes that force the AI to change to the appropriate location with the appropriate includes at the location only when that location is available. I.e. setting up some guard rails to keep the story on track.

For example, In the “Cyberpunk-Hacker's-Quest” demo I can use the other option to force them to go to a coffee shop mid-mission. I also tried chatting to the partner freely however this triggers narrative about the chat rather than entering a dialog state with them before reverting to the options panel. I also tried to get it to hack a vending machine that was not mentioned and it did allow me to do so with rewards. These are things I tried to get the game to go off the rails with.

The vending machine could potentially be a feature if there were room includes, checking if it is available for the interaction and was in them. I could then do a stat check against the difficulty for hacking the machine vs the players skills. Similarly, the rewards could vary based on the success rate against the machine. A botched attempt might alert security or other negative effect.

Just to better understand your plans, are you mainly building this for your own personal enjoyment and experiments, or do you intend to release it more publicly later on?

Also, do you have any kind of development timeline or goals in mind, or is it more of a “explore as you go” project right now?
Knowing this will help me think about how best to align the framework updates with what you’re aiming for.

Text games are so old as gaming at this point. Anything I suggest or do at this point is going to be opensource at the base level for them. Generally, I just want people to have fun and learn different ways to do things.

Most of the renpy games only have a few locations at most in a networked pattern where they occupy a city or small town. When anyone starts looking at the mapping and screens using node locations it should makes sense regardless of the game title. Also, since your auto script replaces most of that scene code that leaves open another way of dealing with the same situation. It's just a fair chance to replace it with something more AI or ML friendly.

I happen to love reuseable code if it works 4, 40 or 400x times that's great. How much of the code can be reused for a bush or plant... That's really how simple I like to make things.

I'm ranking things in importance right now as I want code to be inherited.
Getting a tree to populate would be the next step.
Having multiple tree types would be next.
If that works, I will want to look at attaching a function for the player to all trees.
then recursively going back to have it work for just some trees.
The function might be as simple function might be harvesting a berry.
then I might count berries per tree as a stop limit.
what's the berry's regeneration rate on the tree.

This is an overlap of quest and function as maybe there is a quest to get 30 berries that gives a reward, and maybe I'll tie in deer regeneration as a monster character based on available berries. This area is fruitful ground to play in.

My ideas are mostly to explore just the idea and concept but also to learn. I actually spend a fair bit of time digging though old code looking for stuff that might work right too and I'll point at them sometimes. Releasing code is more of an issue of do I do it faulty or working. I'd rather have it working even if there is an error or two to chase.

I don't mind trying to do a rule set for needle in a haystack. Can we get the AI to recognize scale, or does it have to be done a different way? I like these types of questions.

My aim is a bit higher in general though: I'd really like to call a game into existence just by listing some specifications much like you're doing but slightly larger and with a bit more detail. I'm not sure if that is clear enough or not because I included some of my musings on the topic. Feel free to ask I'll write back.

The room pulses with a palpable energy, as if each person is vying for attention or trying to outdrink their neighbor. In the corner, a bawdy minstrel plucks at his lute, crooning lewd ballads and bawdy limericks that leave little to the imagination. The laughter and raucous cheers of the crowd drown out his strumming, but he presses on, determined to entertain his audience until his fingers bleed and his voice is hoarse. Despite the rough exterior and boisterous atmosphere, there's an undeniable charm to this medieval tavern. To get something useful out of the data I might actually have to tell the ai how to describe things first too. Then run some type of function to parse through the information to create appropriate temporary characters in the room. I could also do this differently by asking for a simpler prompt and then saying include these characters that I already have on hand. Both methods require a repeatable procedure to be done though to finish the task.

In your game you don't tend to show this much text though and I'd even say this was a little excessive. I.e. I don't need to know what the floor looks like unless I look at the floor. Same with the walls....

So if I wasn't here before the AI gens the entire thing., room (all walls and floors.), and guests/workers
If I was here before it just generates some portions i.e based on the changes via the id of the prior context...

Each step in getting the computer to finish a task though is going to be its own challenges let alone dealing with what the AI dreams up.
