Make it so it automatically identifies which Cleo scripts are from which Cleo. But it's inconvenient to manually specify which Cleo is 4 or 3 each time. Mod authors don't specify which Cleo... 4 didn't have this; there was no need to change CS4 or CS3.Before each time, I have to register it, especially since many good mods have been written for CS4 and a couple for CS3.

Yes it did. During early CLEO 4 it was adviced to set CLEO 3 scripts that didn't work correctly to .cs3. Also it is very unlikely that something like that will be done.

That's why I'm still using 4.4. Although Cleo 5 is noticeably faster. I'll wait until they improve compatibility for older scripts. I also like Sanny Builder 3.8.5 because of certain opcodes. If Cleo 5 has good compatibility with older mods, they'll gradually migrate everything to Cleo 5. Old mods are unlikely to be updated for Cleo 5.

You are not reporting any specific mods that do not work.
CLEO5 is meant to be backward compatible by default, and only some problematic scripts need switching to CS4 mode.

From CLEO's view point there is no difference if SB3 or SB4 was used. Same with using old/new syntax. Compiled script contains same data, as it would be generated by Rockstar's compiler.

Stating that Sanny Builder 3 is easier than Sanny Builder 4 is bit baffling. You can still open and compile old script sources in SB4, just switch the edition mode in bottom right corner to GTA SA 1.0 or similar.
There was multiple improvements in SB4, so even writing old style scripts you can still benefit from better autocomplete-tips.

There is no such thing as old opcodes. New/modern SBL syntax (Sanny Builder Library) is just new set of command names for the opcodes (command numbers).
These names were taken from original leaked script sources, so they are official true names of commands used by Rockstar itself. We no longer have descriptions like unknown_cutscene or unk_param_1.

Big advantage is also the fact the command names are unique and there is no longer need to specify opcode numbers.
I personalty wasted multiple evenings on hunting bugs in my scripts caused by code like:
005A: 1@ -= 2@
Even Rockstar did not used opcode numbers, as it is big waste of time. Check out how original game script looked:
