Make mod commands in general stop working when the game is not focused.

Nowadays, there’s the Windowed Mod for GTA San Andreas and similar games. However, when running a stress test in windowed mode and switching to another task on the computer, like typing in Word, the CLEO mod shortcuts and commands still work, interfering with the stress test. The regular game controls, such as exiting a vehicle or shooting, are blocked when the game isn’t focused. I believe this would be a good fix to add to CLEO 5

If the game is not paused, all scripts, including CLEO, continue working. Game controls are not blocked, it's just inactive window don't receive the user input (it will be very strange to press the Space button in Word and see the player jumping in the other window).

To stop the scripts you need to activate the game menu.

It works as designed.

I don't want to interrupt the scripts; I'm trying to tell it to ignore the input of some mod when the window isn't focused. Besides, I believe it makes no sense to be able to activate a script without even looking at the game window. 😅

How would CLEO know what script should be ignored in this case? Sounds like you need to check if the window is focused or not in the script itself

Junior_Djjr agrees with me that it doesn’t make much sense for a shortcut or command to work when the game window is out of focus in Windows, and I really can’t think of any situation or mod that would benefit from that. I’m not sure how hard it would be to implement this, but if it required handling specific commands, many mods would need to be updated to fix it. It makes more sense to have an option to allow it to work out of focus if the author wants it that way 😅

It has nothing to do with CLEO. CLEO scripts work when game scripts (main.scm) work. If you want all scripts to pause when the game is not focused you need to patch the game logic.

Windowed mode now allows to not pause the game when window focus is lost, but it is nothing new as I think MixSets has similar feature, as well as the SAMP.
Sounds like the problem is that script features activated by keyboard hotkey are still triggering, even when game window is inactive.

should check if the game window has keyboard focus (GetForegroundWindow() == RsGlobal.ps->window).
I guess GetKeyboardState should not be called then, just previous state copied with cleared Key_Flag_Down for each key.

I’m not sure if the translation is coming out correctly, but it seems like you’re talking about the script itself, while I’m referring only to the command or key binding made on the keyboard or controller.

For example, if I press the spacebar when GTA is not focused, CJ doesn’t jump (or run)

But if some mod, for instance, uses the M key to open the map, and I press M when the window is not focused, the map still opens. You see what I mean?

So it’s something that only happens with mods, not with the game’s original commands. (I haven’t tested if it happens with .asi mods—maybe it does.)

But I understand it might not be something related to CLEO itself. I’m giving this feedback because Junior said it would make more sense for it to be something handled by CLEO. It might be possible to prevent this directly in the Windowed mod.

And I don’t know much about programming—if I needed to add some command in a mod to block this behavior, I wouldn’t know how to do it.

Ah, it makes more sense now. Yes, user input should be suppressed when window is not active
