The list of GitHub hosted runner labels provided by https://github.com/actions/languageservices was outdated.
https://github.com/actions/languageservices/blob/47ec2dc734627e22cd3a515bdb6427319faa3390/languageservice/src/value-providers/default.ts#L7-L20

Is there any API to get that list? GitHub Actions tool maintainers may gain from it too, such as https://github.com/rhysd/actionlint.

The only other place I know of that you can get information from is https://github.com/actions/runner-images/blob/main/README.md, but that doesn't list macos-13 anymore. OTOH, language services doesn't either. So, at least if you used actions/runner-images:README.md you could offer macos-26, macos-26-xlarge, macos-15-large, macos-15-intel, macos-15, macos-15-xlarge, macos-14-large, macos-14, macos-14-xlarge, and windows-2025.

Let's go with actions/languageservices is best effort (roughly based on a call from this morning and that they are trying to respond to tickets, but that their process doesn't automatically maintain it as noted in the PR that fixed ubuntu-slim).

Sadly, I think the right thing to do probably is to slurp https://github.com/actions/runner-images/blob/main/README.md too. You should be able to cache it for 24 hours (or if you release periodically, you could slurp the value at build time). The odds are that the readme will be more up to date for the foreseeable future.

It's probably reasonable to offer the union of the two lists (runner-images + languageservices).

For the time being, actions/runner and actions/runner-images are going to have more resources+eyeballs and thus be more reliable. I wouldn't expect that to change for quite a while (and yes, they're doing best effort work to improve the languageservices repository.
