xUbuntu 24.04 & suspend after unlock

Hi,

I'm using xUbuntu 24.04, XFCE 4.18 and xsecurelock 1.9.0, with Full Disk Encryption (FDE).

Suspend only works after unlocking xsecurelock. I haven't set any environment variables for xsecurelock. The power manager locks the screen when sleep is activated, and it works fine when the lock is disabled.

The following configurations worked without issues:

• xUbuntu 20.04 with XFCE 4.14 and xsecurelock 1.5.1
• xUbuntu 22.04 with XFCE 4.16 and xsecurelock 1.5.1

Any ideas?

Hey there,

Not sure if this is still of interest to you, or #9, but I think I've figured this out.

Locking in XFCE is handled by the component libxfce4ui (at least for the power manager, I haven't verified if xflock4 works differently but it'd be odd if it did). This component has a function named xfce_screensaver_lock, which performs the operation. It queries the command set in the property /general/LockCommand for xfce4-session (you can see this in the Settings Editor UI), runs that command, and waits for it to complete.

Normally, when one uses a DM, I would think that the lock command simply sends a signal or packet to the daemon to tell it to lock the screen, but in this case the process started by the lock command lives until the lock screen exits, so the control flow of the XFCE power manager is halted until xsecurelock exits (i.e. until you unlock the screen).

To get around this, I created the following file with path /usr/local/bin/lock-screen:

#!/bin/sh
xsecurelock &

Make sure that the file can be executed: sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/lock-screen

Then, I set the lock command to be that lock-screen script:

xfconf-query --channel xfce4-session --property /general/LockCommand --set "lock-screen"

And now, when your laptop goes to sleep your screen should lock! :)

This script probably needs to be refined to prevent the power manager from locking the screen on sleep when its already been locked (e.g. when you shut your laptop lid and it locks, and then leave it idle for the set time until sleep); this is just something I hacked up a couple minutes ago, and I saw your issue when I was trying to figure out the problem.
