Connect to server using TLS but without STARTTLS #5

Hi,
I want to ask a question, but I can't find a better place than here.
I'm trying to use esmtp legacy to send emails using an SMTP server with TLS on port 465, but it doesn't support STARTTLS in the response. The result is that I can't securely send an email.
Does anybody know how to solve such a case, or is esmtp unable to handle it?
A new version of libESMTP has support for that use case?
