'ontouchstart' in document.documentElement returns false

I'm trying to implement this code, and I'm always getting a false on 'ontouchstart' in document.documentElement

I'm adding this to a div that has the carousel class assigned, and carousel work flawlessly on it. Any idea?

I got the same problem with 'ontouchstart' detection. A quick search about touch support brought me here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2915833/how-to-check-browser-for-touchstart-support-using-js-jquery/2915912#answer-14320591

So I changed the code to the following to get it working with Chrome:

    var supportsTouch = false;
    
    if ('ontouchstart' in window) // iOS & android
        supportsTouch = true;
    else if(window.navigator.msPointerEnabled) // Win8
        supportsTouch = true;
    else if ('ontouchstart' in document.documentElement) // Controversal way to check touch support
        supportsTouch = true;

    if (supportsTouch) // Can register touchstart event?
        this.addEventListener('touchstart', onTouchStart, false);
