Currently all the high speed navigation and super fast performance is courtesy to using the DirectX (GPU) canvas. It has got limits on each device. The other solution is to use a virtualized canvas which will need lot of modifications in code and architecture.

Maybe compress the image so it fits on the DirectX canvas? Better to lose quality than not open it at all.

That's also a good idea. But I wish to use VirtualCanvas and see whether the performance degrades or not first.
