same issue with smart2

After install with:
python setup.py build
& python setup.py install

i get the following error: Can't create datadir at /var/lib/smart/

openerp@ubuntu:$ smart --gui
error: Can't create datadir at /var/lib/smart/,
openerp@ubuntu:$
openerp@ubuntu:$ smart --version
smart 1.5
openerp@ubuntu:$ smart --shell
error: Can't create datadir at /var/lib/smart/

openerp@ubuntu:$ uname -a

Do you want to manage your local host rpm? If so, please use sudo to do this operation, as no-root user
has no write access to /var/lib/smart/. Please have a try.
