Alright, so I sorta managed to make SMPlayer use the eGPU, and here are some observations from playing around with it for the past few days:

It appears that the
--config=yesoption in "Advanced" doesn't do anything: running latest SMPlayer installed usingpacmanfrom Arch. (Btw, should that be--config=yesor-config=yes?) I gotmpv.confplaced in the usual spot (~/.config/mpv). I tried two mpv configurations (see below), to no avail. What am I doing wrong?Both configurations work just fine with mpv when launched from command line. (Btw, which of these mpv configurations is better?) And yes, "Multimedia engine" is set to
/usr/bin/mpv, while "Hardware decoding" is onAuto.[Edit: Please change the title to "mpv.conf"!]
