whitespace is not consistent

This is not a big problem, but it would be nicer to work on this library if only spaces were used; currently, there is a somewhat random combination of tabs and spaces.

Would you mind if I submitted a pull request to make the whitespace consistent?

A patch would be nice, thank you. I wonder how this came to be, I was pretty sure my editor does not put tabs in the code (Makefiles etc. notwithstanding).
