Description
As of macOS 26.1, I can no longer use my virtual machine to connect to my Apple account. This contrasts with my real macOS 26.1, where my computer is logged in to my Apple account.
I am connecting through a direct Ethernet connection, not wi-fi.
Steps:
- Launch VirtualOS
- Install either macOS 15.5.0 (build 24F74) or 26.1.0 (build 25B78)
- Choose the installed virtual machine and click Start in VirtualOS
- Choose US and Set up as new
- Skip the login to Apple
- Don't enable location
- When I get desktop access, launch System Settings
- Verify in Network that all connections are active (same as on my real machine)
- Turn Firewall on and block all incoming connections (same as on my real machine)
- Click the Apple account link near the top of the System Settings left pane just below the search field
- Attempt to log in with my Apple ID and password
- Enter the 6-digit 2FA code
Expected result and actual 15.5.0 result: I am logged into my Apple account on my virtual machine or am presented with terms of service (On 15.5.0, I was logged in)
Actual 26.1.0 result: I get a response that it can't connect to the server.
I believe I was able to log in with 26.0 and 26.0.1 but I have no way to test that now.
I also tried reinstalling 15.5.0 and 26.1.0 and logging in at step 5.
- Enter Apple ID
- Enter password
Expected and actual 15.5.0 results: I receive a 2FA code
Actual 26.1.0 results: On the first try, virtualOS crashed when I clicked Continue. The second try I received a 2FA code.
- Enter the 6-digit 2FA code
Expected and actual 15.5.0 results: I am logged in or presented with the terms of service (on 15.5.0, I was presented with terms of service)
Actual 26.1.0 result: I get a response that it can't connect to the server.
