Custom themes for Krikzz’s Mega EverDrive Pro

A small collection of custom menu themes for the Mega EverDrive Pro flash cartridge
(Sega Mega Drive / Genesis), in .BGR theme format.

This repository contains custom themes for Krikzz’s Mega EverDrive Pro:

• Static and animated EverDrive Pro menu wallpapers
• Designed for Sega Mega Drive / Genesis hardware
• Supplied as ready-to-use .bgr theme files

Just copy the .bgr file(s) to your SD card and set them as theme in the Mega EverDrive Pro menu.

🎨 Included Themes

Theme: “Console”

A single-frame wallpaper with a Mega Drive console / background look.

• Style: static wallpaper
• File: console.bgr
• System: Mega EverDrive Pro (Mega Drive / Genesis)

Typical use case:
Clean, console-themed look for people who prefer a simple, non-animated menu.

Theme: “Nightline”

An animated night skyline with moving water in the foreground.

• Style: animated background
• Layers: 7 animation layers for water and lights
• File: nightline.bgr

Gives the EverDrive Pro menu a city-at-night vibe with subtle motion.

Theme: “Jim Power”

Animated wallpaper based on the Jim Power title screen.

• Style: animated background
• Source: mixed elements from the Genesis/Mega Drive and Amiga versions
• File: jimpower.bgr

Because of limited original assets, this theme is a hybrid between the two versions.

Theme: “Shadow of the Beast”

Animated wallpaper based on the Shadow of the Beast plains.

• Style: animated background
• Atmosphere: distant plains / fantasy landscape
• File: beast.bgr

Designed to give the EverDrive Pro menu a more cinematic, 16-bit fantasy feel.

🕹️ How to use these themes (Mega EverDrive Pro)

Requirements:

• Mega EverDrive Pro flash cartridge
• Mega Drive / Genesis console (or compatible)
• Firmware MEGAOS 4.07 or higher (required for theme support)

Installation steps

1. Copy the .BGR file(s)

   • Place one or more .bgr files onto your EverDrive SD card.
   • You can put them in any folder you like (for example MEGA/THEMES or THEMES).

2. Enable themes in the Mega EverDrive Pro menu

   • Boot your Mega Drive / Genesis with the EverDrive inserted.
   • Open the EverDrive Options / Menu settings and make sure Themes are enabled.

3. Select and set the theme

   • In the file browser of the EverDrive Pro, navigate to the .bgr file (e.g. console.bgr).
   • Highlight the file and press A on the controller.
   • Choose “Set theme” and confirm.

After that, the selected .bgr file becomes the active menu theme and will be used every time the EverDrive menu is shown (until you change it again).

❓ What is a .BGR theme?

The Mega EverDrive Pro supports custom menu themes in a special .bgr format:

• Contains background graphics and animation frames
• Used by the cartridge’s menu to draw its UI background
• Allows static images, horizontal / vertical scrolling and more (depending on theme design)

All themes in this repo are already compiled as .bgr and ready to use.
