Posts
A post is similar to a page, but is better suited to publishing content sorted by date order, such as blog posts, announcements and press releases.
Posts are made by creating a Markdown file in the posts directory:
website/_posts/YYYY-MM-DD-a-post.markdown
The URL of a post is determined by the categories listed in its YAML frontmatter, not by its location in the website directory: all posts must go in the _posts directory.
Every post requires frontmatter at the start of the file to determine its layout, title and date, as well as other optional parameters. This is in YAML format and will typically look like this:
---
layout: post
title: "Post Title"
date: YYYY-MM-DD
---
A post's YAML frontmatter can also be used to specify its author, categories and excerpt:
---
layout: post
title: "Post Title"
date: YYYY-MM-DD
author: "Post Author"
categories:
- category1
- category2
excerpt: "Sed posuere consectetur est at lobortis ..."
---
Posts can be organised by category:
- All posts are published at rzzt.io/blog/ regardless of the category, but adding the
blogcategory helps to differentiate blog posts from other posts. - All posts with the category
announcementare published at rzzt.io/announcements/. - All posts with the category
media(for press releases) are published at rzzt.io/media/.
The category blog, announcement or media should be placed first on the list of categories:
categories:
- media
- category2
- category3
Posts will be published at rzzt.io/category1/category2/.../YYYY/MM/DD/file-name.html.
Post content begins after the YAML frontmatter and is written using Markdown syntax:
---
layout: post
title: "Post Title"
date: YYYY-MM-DD
---
