Early release candidate for 2.0.0. There are no planned changes for the api contracts before release 2.0.0 - the remaining modifications will be limited to javadoc, unittests and non-breaking changes.

Unit test coverage and Javadoc coverage needs to be increased before the 2.0.0 release can be actioned.
