Requirements

Node.js

Please install Node.js >= v18 and npm >= v9. You will find it easier to use the Node Version Manager nvm

To use the correct version of Node.js for this application, via nvm:

cd forms-manager
nvm use

Local development

Setup

1. Install application dependencies:

npm ci

2. Install Docker

3. Install Localstack: https://docs.localstack.cloud/getting-started/installation/

4. Install awslocal: https://github.com/localstack/awscli-local

5. Create a new S3 bucket using localstack with the awslocal wrapper:

localstack start
awslocal s3api create-bucket \
  --bucket form-definition-storage \
  --region eu-west-2 \
  --create-bucket-configuration LocationConstraint=eu-west-2

5. Add your bucket name into your .env file:

FORM_DEF_BUCKET_NAME=form-definition-storage
S3_ENDPOINT=http://localhost:4566
AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID=dummy
AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY=dummy
MONGO_URI='mongodb://defra:changeme@localhost:27017/'

Development

To run the application in development mode run:

npm run dev

Production

To mimic the application running in production mode locally run:

npm start

Npm scripts

All available Npm scripts can be seen in package.json To view them in your command line run:

npm run

API endpoints

Endpoint	Description
GET: /health	Health

GET: /v1/entities/<entityId>	Entity by ID

Calling API endpoints

Postman

A Postman collection and environment are available for making calls to the Teams and Repositories API. Simply import the collection and environment into Postman.

Docker

Development image

Build:

docker build --target development --no-cache --tag forms-manager:development .

Run:

docker run -e GITHUB_API_TOKEN -p 3008:3008 forms-manager:development

Production image

Build:

docker build --no-cache --tag forms-manager .

Run:

docker run -e GITHUB_API_TOKEN -p 3001:3001 forms-manager
